Why does Kyrie Irving wear No. 11? Know about all the reasons behind it

Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant had an impressive win against the Charlotte Hornets. After losing to the Boston Celtics, it was the Brooklyn Nets‘ 11th straight victory. The background story to Kyrie Irving’s jersey number was more notable in the game than their string of victories.

Ashley ShahAhmadi, the Hornets courtside correspondent, detailed the reasons that led Kyrie to wear number 11. What made these interesting facts even more intriguing was how they continued to get crazier and crazier as Ashley narrated the story.

According to the facts revealed by ShahAhmadi, on 23 March 1992, Kyrie was born at 1:11 and interestingly his name is exactly 11 letters long. As many now know that Kyrie’s name means Yahweh, the name for the God of the Israelites after Irving revealed it in a postgame interview. But the fun doesn’t end here, if you look at the Alphabet in English, K is the 11th letter. That was just the start of the wild telling of the number 11 significance in Uncle Drew’s life.

ShahAhmadi also said that Kyrie played exactly 11 games at Duke University before he was picked number one in the 1st round. NBA fans already know that Irving was drafted in the year 2011. Perhaps, the most interesting of the information she saved for the last. Irving scored his 11,000th point on the 11th of March. However, the biggest of all reasons, that the Brooklyn guard wears 11, is his father also wore number 11, when he played for Boston University.

Given that he wore the number 11 in high school and college, it was a bit surprising that Irving elected to wear no. 2 when he started his NBA career in Cleveland with the Cavaliers. However, Kyrie, returned to wearing number 11 once he moved to the Boston Celtics because number 2 had been retired by the team. He still does so with the Brooklyn Nets, where he joined forces with Durant. It’s interesting how Kyrie’s circumstances have just unfolded around that particular number.
